SB Washington to rely on defense this season
SOUTH BEND —
South Bend Washington is coming off of a three win season, but they return with both high hopes and experience. The Panthers have 14 returning starters overall, including nine on the defensive side of the ball. The team will rely heavily on that defensive unit.
Isaiah McWilliams, said, "Our defense is really, really tight. We've learned the plays with each other and played with each other for a couple of years now, so we trust each other, we compete, and we love each other at the end of the day, no matter what."
Jay Johnson returns for his sixth season with Washington. He believes the defense could be what the Panthers need to win more games. He said, "To be at a point where the defense is a force: It puts us at ease. Any situation we know that with those guys on the field we have the opportunity to get a huge play that can sway the momentum of the game. It's great to have that piece and bit of confidence for defense, but we're working to try and get it on offense."
The Panthers opens the season on August 18 when they take on Hammond at home at 7:30 pm.
