South Bend Cubs win 9-6 against Loons


Yeiler Peguero and Wladimir Galindo each homered and drove in three runs as the South Bend Cubs beat the Great Lakes Loons 9-6 on Tuesday.

Great Lakes had runners on first and third in the top of the ninth, but Moises Perez struck out to end the game.

South Bend took the lead in the first when Peguero and Galindo hit two-run home runs.

After Great Lakes scored a run in the second on a home run by Cody Thomas, the Loons cut into the deficit in the third inning when Saige Jenco scored on a single and Zach McKinstry scored on an error.

The Cubs later added a run in the fourth and four in the seventh. In the fourth, D.J. Wilson scored on an error, while Kevonte Mitchell hit a two-run single in the seventh.

South Bend starter Duncan Robinson (2-1) picked up the win despite allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Leo Crawford (0-1) took the loss in the Midwest League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.

McKinstry doubled and singled twice for the Loons. Jenco tripled and singled, driving in two runs.
