Velazquez streak ends at 74, but Silver Hawks buzz past Bees, 6-3

Shortstop Andrew Velazquez had his minor-league record on-base streak snapped at 74 games thanks to a sliding catch in the left field corner by Burlington Bees left fielder Tyler Palmer in the bottom of the 7th, but the rest of the team picked up the slack on offense.

Third baseman Fidel Pena launched a three-run homer and an RBI triple in his first game with South Bend this year as the Silver Hawks (17-9, 57-38) defeated the Bees (13-13, 51-44) 6-3 Thursday night at Four Winds Field.

The Silver Hawks plated three runs in the bottom of the 2nd, added a run in the 3rd, two more in the 4th and never looked back.

The Bees outhit the Hawks 9-to-6, but it wasn't enough for the visitors.

The Hawks and Bees meet up for the rubber game of the three-game series on Friday night at 7:35pm. Righty Clint Sharp (5-5, 5.17 ERA) gets the start for Burlington while righty John Omahen (4-3, 3.06 ERA) takes the ball for the Hawks.
