As Notre Dame prepares to play North Carolina this week, the Irish are dealing with an unexpected setback.

Brandon Wimbush's status for this weekend's game is up in the air after injuring his right foot.

Head coach Brian Kelly confirmed today that they've had Wimbush in a walking boot the a past couple days, calling him "day-to-day".

"We have no structural damage.," Kelly says. "We have a clean MRI. We have a clean X-Ray. We put him in a walking boot to be really, really conservative."

Kelly is characterizing this as a soft tissue injury, which Wimbush suffered at some point during Saturday's win over Miami of Ohio.

Kelly maintains that Wimbush will be able to play, as soon as he starts feeling better.

In the meantime, here's the plan for the junior QB this week:"

We're not gonna push him really hard today (Tuesday)," Kelly says.

"I think we'll get him moving a little bit, throwing. But I'm not in a position where I need to have him practice today. My vision would be more towards getting him out there Wednesday for practice."

Notre Dame plays at North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
