NC State fired head coach days before game with Irish

As Notre Dame prepares to go on the road and try to win 4th in a row in the ACC, their next opponent - NC State - is in turmoil.

Today, the school announced coach Mark Gottfried will be fired at the end of the year.

The Wolfpack are currently 2nd to last in the ACC, despite believing they have the talent to be much better.

And that's how Mike Brey sees them.

A talented foe, who his Irish are going to play in hostile territory, with the emotions of today's news adding fuel to the fire.

"They've got really good players," Brey said Thursday. "Certainly they've got a Top-5 pick handling the ball. But they've got a physical front line. There's a reason they were picked high: they've got ability."

"And there's certain nights they've really put it together. My feeling is they're gonna play great , and we are going to have to play fabulous to win a road game. I think you've got to throw out the record right now of NC State, given the dynamics around the program."

Notre Dame and NC State play Saturday at noon in Raleigh, NC. The game will be televised on ESPN.
