South Bend Cubs owner, players touring flood damage areas

South Bend Cubs Owner, Andrew Berlin, visits neighborhoods hit by flooding// Katlin Connin WSBT 22

The Red Cross is making the rounds today through neighborhoods devastated by flooding on South Bend's south side.

Those representatives were joined by a familiar name.

Andrew Berlin made a stop in Jewell Woods.

Berlin, the owner of the South Bend Cubs, made a $5,000 donation to the Red Cross for their disaster relief efforts.

Many of us might have stopped there.

But Berlin wanted to see where that money is going.

He met with one flood victim Thursday, who say water filled his basement almost to the ceiling.

The Red Cross has been providing food, clothing, and clean-up kits to people like this all over St. Joe County.

Berlin says he just wants to help out.

"As a community partner, Four Winds Field and the South Bend Cubs, we have close to 400,000 people coming through our ball park in a season and they're all our neighbors whether it's Elkhart or Granger or Plymouth or Mishawaka or South Bend we really all are neighbors,” Berlin said.

Berlin says a week after the floods, a lot of people may not be thinking of flood victims anymore.

He says he hopes that his donation will encourage others to donate too.
