Niko Burton is a reporter for WSBT 22 News. He joined the team in June 2017.
Niko was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago. While he was in high school, he pursued acting until his senior year when he took a journalism class. That semester, Niko was active in his high school newspaper and helped pioneer the televised student announcements, Tiger TV. Upon high school graduation, he had developed a love for news.
Niko attended Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, before transferring to the University of Illinois in Urbana–Champaign. Niko earned his degree in Broadcast Journalism with specializations in History and Theater. Niko was an active member of UI-7 News where he covered topics including the 2016 election and local events like the Illini Marathon.
While attending college, Niko also interned at WPGU 107.1 Alternative radio where he was anchor for the morning show “The Alternative Route”.
In his free time, Niko likes to go on runs through the neighborhood, quote his favorite television show “The Office”, watch Illini and (his favorite) Butler Basketball and update his IMDb app with the best movies. If you have any story ideas or must-see movies to add to his list, he would love to hear from you!
