Finding out how gay marriage ruling affects Alabamians
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Equality Alabama will hold a marriage town hall at UAB Monday night. The purpose of the event is to answer questions and concerns that have arisen following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage.
Susan Watson, the executive director of the ACLU of Alabama, will lead the discussion and help answer questions.
The event is also sponsored by the Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB. It begins at 6 p.m. in UAB Heritage Hall Room 106.
In June, the nation's highest court ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. It kept legally married same-sex couples from receiving federal benefits. The Supreme Court also allowed for same-sex marriages to resume in California.
