There has been an arrest in a nearly 10-year-old cold case murder in Elkhart.

Drake Muncie, 26, was killed back in 2009 outside of his home on County Road 6.

Police say someone knocked on Muncie's door in the early morning hours of August 2.

Investigators believe there was a fight, gunshots rang out and Drake was shot.

His wife and 3-year-old son were inside at the time.

The Elkhart County prosecutor confirms police have arrested Michael Smith for the crime.

Investigators recovered DNA from the scene that belonged to someone other than Munice. Police aren't saying if that DNA entered into the database was what connected Smith to the scene.

Smith was arrested in Tennessee and brought back to Indiana.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker says Smith appeared in Circuit Court last week for his initial hearing.

His trial is currently set for September.

We've reached out to the victim's family and Elkhart Homicide Unit to get more details about this cold case that might finally turn into a closed case.
