Elkhart police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday afternoon.

Police say they it all started with a bank robbery. Police say the suspects were armed.

It was reported to police that the suspects entered the bank with handguns and demanding money.

It happened a little after 3:30 p.m. at 1st Source Bank on East Bristol Street.

Police say the suspects left with cash and tried to run off. When officers got to the area, police say they saw the suspects drive away in their car.

This led to a short chase which ended a little less than three miles from the bank near the intersection of Wolf and 6th Street.

Police say the suspects then ditched the car and tried to run. Two of the suspects were caught at two different locations.

Police say they also caught up to the third suspect and that's when an officer shot them.

They were taken to Elkhart General and now police are working on piecing together more information.

"The case has now been turned over to the Elkhart County Homicide Unit. They're starting their investigation with all witnesses, including police officers that were involved with this. That's where we're at right now," said Ed Windbigler, Elkhart City Police Chief.

At this time, the condition of the person shot is not known.

The homicide unit is involved because it investigates all officer-involved shootings.
