Mother's Day is Sunday and a class of fourth graders at Coloma Intermediate is ready!

They have been working hardmaking small gifts to show mom how appreciated she is.

Mother's Day is just two days away.

One of the fourth-grade classes at Coloma intermediate has some big plans to show mom just how much she means to them.

While every day is a chance to show moms how important they are, Sunday is definitely the biggest one.

Fourth graders in Lisa Streu's class at Coloma Intermediate are making pillows, tissue paper flowers, and other gifts for the maternal figure in their life.

Streu says this idea was inspired by another community project.

“I'm the leo club advisor for Coloma high school, and we made blankets for the NIC unit at Bronson in Kalamazoo, and so I was telling my students about it, and they thought it was a really cool idea and so with the material I used for that, we also used to make our mother's day pillows,” said Streu.

While each kid has different plans for Mother's Day, the one constant theme was finding a way to help mom with all the stuff she normally does.

“I'm planning, for giving my mother, I'm helping my mother cook dinner for Mother's Day,” said Irelynn.

Several kids I spoke with say one of the best parts about Sunday is getting to spend a day hanging out and enjoying the company of mom.

“She plays softball, and I love baseball, so every time we get a warm day, we just throw the baseball around and I love her,” said Ashton.

The presents being made by the students have not been mentioned to the parents, so the surprise factor will be sure to make it even more special.

For some students, their grandmother plays a matronly role as well. For young Maylee, she loves that she gets to have 2 mother figures in her life.

“My grandma is more of the one that I live with, she's at home a lot and she cleans, and she helps me with a lot of things. As for my mom, she takes me to a lot of places, and she makes these really good dinners so I get the best of both worlds,” said Maylee.
