Crews respond to South Bend factory fire overnight

Employees of a South Bend factory were forced to evacuate after a fire.

This happened at the Suzuki Garphyttan plant in South Bend. That’s on Nimtz Parkway.

The call came in around 1 Sunday morning.

"We're cutting tubes and I looked up and the fire just got a hold of us and went up into the stacks," said worker Jay Gullens at the scene.

No one was injured. Workers say they executed their evacuation plans and were able to account for everyone by the time that firefighters arrived.
