Police have identified the 17-year-old who drowned after jumping from the Silver Beach pier into the water Saturday.
Divers from the Berrien County Sheriff's Office pulled the body of Travonne Shannon out of the water just before 9:30 p.m.
Police say the teen, a junior at Benton Harbor HIgh School, was jumping off the south pier earlier in the evening with a cousin when he did not resurface.
"Well I just feel bad for the parents I have a teen myself that pier makes me nervous when she goes out there so you have to keep a steady eye just feel bad for the loss it will be a tremendous pain for those parents," said beachgoer, Margaret Rushing.
Police say jumping off the pier is extremely dangerous and should never be done.
