Director John Hancock holds public auditions for movie filmed in Michiana
People lined up at the La Porte County Library for their chance to make it on the big screen.
The movie, "The Girls of Summer," is set to film in Michiana this summer.
Director John Hancock held public auditions Saturday to be an actor, extra or crew member for the upcoming romantic comedy. The last round of auditions are being held Sunday.
"I'm not a Hollywood actress by any means, but you never know," said Lorna Demorrow.
"I'm just trying to see if I like this and it's a new experience," said Maggie Cortnett.
The audition line was filled with talent and aspiration, everyone hoping Director John Hancock will think they have what it takes. Hancock is filming his fifth move in this area and is looking for musicians, actors and crew members. He is the same director who was behind the movie "Prancer," which was also shot in Michiana, and "Bang the Drum Slowly," which featured Robert De Niro. Hancock says he's had success finding raw talent in our community.
"There's so much talent here," said John Hancock. "They're world class actors. I mean we've found people that can hold up... rival anything you can find anywhere."
Myah Englebrecht says this method gives her a chance to pursue her dream.
"it means everything, this doesn't happen everyday," said Englebrecht. " It's not something you can just call up and do like on a weekend."
During the auditions people had to perform a short script and sing a rendition of God Bless America. With parts for all ages, the audition process provided a bonding moment for one mother-daughter duo.
"I am excited but at the same time a little nervous," said Ella Neuenscwander. "On the way here my stomach kinda hurt a little bit."
"To have her grow up and have the same aspirations and goals and to be so excited about this, it's really cool," said Laura Neuenscwander.
Whether they make the cut, Saturday is something people will not forget.
"When I am older I will always remember that I am in a movie, cause it's really exciting," said Ella Neuenscwander.
You can audition Sunday at the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks and ArtSpace Uptown Artists Loft in Michigan City
Auditions go from 1 to 5 p.m.
