Driver charged in deadly South Bend hit-and-run that killed mother and son
A massive manhunt is under way for two men who police say killed two people Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash at N. Bendix and W. Lathrop in South Bend.
"We have not positively identified them at this point, but we believe they're mother and son," Tim Spencer, FACT team, said of the deceased.
Several others were critically injured in and taken to the hospital. Investigators are unable to tell us ages or conditions of any of the victims yet.
We do know one of the injured is a baby. It's unclear what the infant's condition is -- but investigators say they are concerned.
Both suspects are believed to be white males. The suspect hit-and-run vehicle is described as a 2011 Dodge Avenger.
Captain Spencer tells us the car carrying the victims and the suspect's car were driving northbound on Bendix Dr.
The suspects car then rear ended the victims' car, causing them to spin into the southbound lane.
They were hit by a southbound car, killing them.
Police believe the suspects left on foot and may have been picked up by another car. Indiana State Police canine units were on scene searching for them but came up empty-handed.
