Drop-in playcare in Mishawaka offers parents hourly babysitting
Busy parents know just how important having a couple of hours is to be able to run errands or go to appointments without the kids, but finding a babysitter can be a huge hassle.
Now there's a new service here in Michiana that offers hourly drop-in care for kids.
Free Time Kids Playcare in Mishawaka is considered a legally license daycare-exempt provider because child care is short term and non-routine, but it follows all the same requirements that are standard for licensed centers with the bonus of letting you drop off your child for one hour or four hours.
"I love it's because it's really convenient. We don't have any family in town, all of our family is 1800 miles away," said Shanna Hendrickson.
Hendrickson says being able to drop off her 3-year-old for an hour or two at Free Time Kids Playcare in Mishawaka is better than a babysitter.
"It's really interactive here and she's always playing and she hates when I come to pick her up," said Hendrickson.
Owner Denise Cunningham says many parents need an hour or two kid-free to run errands or go to doctor's appointments and this is the perfect answer.
"It's by the hour. You don't have to have an appointment there's no reservations, a minimum of one hour and maximum of four hours," she said.
Free time Kids Play care has cameras set up throughout the building so that the caregivers can be monitored. As for security, there is a lock on the door and only the staff has access to the code to be able to get back into the center.
"The care givers are all CPR certified, trained in first aide certified. We all take safe sleeping practices," said Cunningham.
Shanna says now she gets free time and her daughter gets fun time -- a win for both mother and daughter.
"I hope they are here for the long term because we love it," she said.
All workers at Free Time Kids Playcare have to complete a background check, drug testing, and go through health and medical training.
