Police say a 29-year-old Elkhart man drove into a house this morning and ran off, requiring a K9 unit to find him as he was hiding at a nearby residence.

This happened around 4 a.m. in Elkhart County. Police say Mario Hernandez-Veyna was southbound on C.R. 13, north of C.R. 24, when his vehicle left the road and hit a mailbox, telephone pole, fence and finally a house.

Police say the K9 tracked him to a nearby home and he was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with head injuries. The injuries are not life-threatening, say police.

Police say they believe alcohol is a factor in this crash.
