The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department has found hundreds of used adult diapers along the side of the road. Now, they're asking the public's help to find out who is doing this.
Police say this is happening mainly in rural roads in Galena and Kankakee Townships in LaPorte County, just north of LaPorte.
So far, they've gathered more than 800 used adult diapers.
There is no pattern in where they're dropped and police say the area they're finding them in is still growing.
They first started noticing individually wrapped bags with these used diapers in them back in the fall, but when the snow melted this spring, they found out they had a lot of them littered across the roads.
Right now, they don't have any idea of who is doing this. They're also trying to find out why anyone would do this.
"That's the thing that confounds us," said Capt. Mike Kellems with the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department. "There's no reason you just couldn't throw it in a trash can, go to a dumpster somewhere and throw it in a dumpster. Just dispose of it naturally."
They are asking for the public's help in this. If you know anything about this you're asked to call the sheriff's office or you can even call Crime Stoppers.
Police do say that they fully intend to prosecute whoever is responsible for this.
