UPDATE: Knox public schools have declared today an e-learning day due to widespread illness. They are one of several local schools that have either canceled or held e-learning days because so many students were falling ill.

ORIGINAL STORY POSTED FRIDAY: Wawasee High School and Wawasee Middle School join Bridgman and Michigan City schools in closing their buildings due to so many people calling in sick.

Wawasee issued the following release Friday:

Wawasee High School and Wawasee Middle School will have an eLearning day on Monday, February 3, 2020. Those two buildings will be deep cleaned on Monday. Student absences in both buildings have hovered between 15-19% this week due to illness.

Milford School, North Webster School and Syracuse School will be in session on Monday as they are very close to their normal absence rate.

eLearning assignments for Wawasee High School and Wawasee Middle School students will be posted on Monday morning by 9 am. For eLearning Day information and assignment access, go to https://www.wawasee.k12.in.us/elearning-days.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Michigan City schools declared e-learning days on Thursday and Friday so they could deep-clean the school buildings.

Bridgman issued the following release on Thursday:

Similar to many school districts across the State and Nation, we continue to be experiencing a high level of influenza like illness at Bridgman Public Schools, but have met state mandated attendance requirements each day.

Our administrative team has continuously been monitoring this situation and have been in constant contact with our partners at the Berrien County Health Department.

This morning, I called an emergency meeting with all district and building administrators to discuss our current situation in Bridgman.

It has been decided to close ALL district buildings and cancel ALL activities effective Thursday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. until Sunday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m.

It is my hope that these three (3) days will allow those who are still sick time to get healthy, those that are rebounding from illness time to rest and rejuvenate and those that have not been sick to remain that way.
