Local casinos say they are seeing a big boost in business because of sports betting.
WSBT 22 visited Blue Chip in Michigan City which is one of the casinos benefiting. In September alone, people visiting Blue Chip wagered more than $2.8 million in sports betting.
According to the Indiana Gaming Commission, the entire state of Indiana wagered more than 35 million in the first month.
Let's take a look inside the sports book at Blue Chip. You can see many betting stations, big screen TVs, comfy chairs and a sports bar attached to it.
Blue Chip says that sports bar has also profited off of sports betting. Their food and drink revenue has gone up 250-percent. Not only are people visiting the sports book and sports bar, they're walking all around Blue Chip too.
“We're seeing a lot of new customers in our table games area that are coming here just to bet. And they come in here to place their wager on sports and head onto the casino floor,” said Brenda Temple, vice president and GM.
Blue Chip has also had some success with its betting app Fan Duel as well.
