Local girl receives Girl Scout Gold Award

A big honor for a local Girl Scout. She just received the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Maggie is from Granger.

She's being awarded that honor for her project which provides supplies for babies in the NICU.

She organized a cabinet and a cart in the unit with supplies.

She also took the information that nurses use in the event of a death and condensed it into a binder and slideshow presentation.

She hopes all of this will make the bereavement process easier for families.

"Margaret decided to do something for the NICU because her brother was born prematurely and help parents deal with the stability process of a premi baby," said Ruth Strawser, Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana Michiana.

Thankfully her brother survived and is doing well.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement Girl Scouts can receive.
