Shippers and online retailers are gearing up for Cyber Monday.

We've entered the busiest shopping period of the season. That means the number of customers mailing and shipping is expected to increase significantly in the next few weeks.

In order to make sure those packages arrive on time for the holidays, select post offices will be open on Sundays through Christmas.

According to the United States Postal Service, it expects to deliver 850 million packages between this Sunday and New Year's Day, plus more than 15 billion total pieces of mail this holiday season.

This is a critical time for small business owners like Sharon Barrett of South Bend. She says having the post office open an extra day is a huge benefit.

"I have an online Etsy store. It's my busy season because it’s Christmas and so I’m doing orders every day and it's great that it's open on Sunday, because I’m stacking up. So, it's great that I can get them out as I make them," said Barrett.

Barrett says her business is up 500-percent over last year. She says people love giving her handmade soaps and lotions as Christmas gifts.

"It's a very competitive business. There's millions of soap sellers, especially online and so customer service is key. Getting them out pretty much as quickly as you can get them made and in the mail is really essential," said Barrett.

Post office officials say whether people shop on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday, they can relax knowing packages will arrive at their destination on time.

The South Bend Cubs are preparing for one of their biggest online sales of the year this Cyber Monday.

Starting at midnight, the Cubs’ merchandise store is offering 35-percent off everything online and free shipping.

"A 35-percent discount, we don't do discounts that high at all. That's higher than our season tickets get, that's higher than our staff gets. That is the biggest discount we will ever, ever, ever do. So, we're really excited to offer that," said Mary Lou Pallo, South Bend Cubs’ merchandise manager.

The South Bend Cubs’ store merchandise manager says everything you see in store can be found online.

The Cubs Den Team Store ships to all 50 states and overseas. It has extended its Black Friday deal to Cyber Monday.

50-ticket packages are available. Each one includes 10 game tickets, parking passes, Cubbie cash, fun zone wristbands and batting cage tokens. That's a $200 value for $99.
