PBS station for kids is coming to our area
A new TV station is coming to our area soon, and it's just for kids.
WNIT Public Television is raising money to launch a 24-hour children's channel.
PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger is in town to help raise awareness and money for the project.
Other PBS stations around the country have already launched similar channels, and she says it's been positive for the children and their families.
"There are a lot pf people in this, children in this community that I think would love the possibility of being able to watch educational children's television at night, on the weekends, when our station here is broadcasting programming for adults,” said Kerger. “And so the goal is to really create an opportunity for children to be able to experience public broadcasting whenever they want to watch -- and that's what we're trying to accomplish."
Kerger says WNIT is doing well with its fundraising so far, and is hoping to launch the new channel next Spring.
