Pet Releaf: Some say CBD oil helps their furry friends
It's an alternative to traditional medicine that's becoming more popular -- cannabidiol oil, also known as CBB oil.
Even pet owners are turning to the product to help their furry family members. They say there are a lot of health benefits.
WSBT 22 spoke to a distributor who says it helps with things like pain management, arthritis, cancer symptoms, and more.
Some pet owners told us CBD oil has changed their pets' lives for the better.
Doggie Drive-Thru, located in Niles, is a pet bakery and supply store.
The owner decided to host a CBD oil seminar.
CBD is a chemical compound found in the cannabis family.
Unlike the plant that produces marijuana, the hemp plant that produces CBD oils has little to no THC. CBD is non-psychoactive, which means it won't get you high.
“It’s more of a holistic option,” said Reid Baker with Pet Releaf. “I’m not saying you shouldn’t be using western medicine. I’m just saying that a lot more people are starting to look more to a holistic option because it comes with a whole lot less side effects and a lot of times you’re getting the exact same results, if not better results.”
Becki Curtis started using Pet Releaf's product 6 months ago.
“I have a cat who is terminally ill with some kind of cancer and I give it to him to help him sleep and be more comfortable, and eat more, and just live a happier life.”
Curtis says she's seen a noticeable difference in her cat's overall well-being.
“We tried everything at the vet’s office from steroids to antibiotics, and certain types of things which make him lethargic or sick to his stomach. With this I don’t get any of those side effects.”
CBD oil comes in a variety of different forms for your pet including oil, capsules, and even doggie treats.
“We are one of the only companies in the country that actually have our hemp farms are USDA organically certified,” said Baker. “Not only is are crop USDA organically certified, but our final product handling is USDA certified, so it’s one of the cleanest safest products on the market right now.”
There are a lot of similar products out on the market today, not all are trustworthy. But before buying CBD oil, do your research.
WSBT 22 reached out to a local veterinarian. He says there aren't a lot of studies about the effect of CDB oil, so they don't prescribe it.
