Petition to let St. Joseph County K9 join his family gets 100K signatures
Tens of thousands of people across the country are urging the St. Joseph County Police Department to have a change of heart.
According to our partners at the South Bend Tribune, last month Mike Beigelbeck – who was paired as a canine officer with Flash, a German shepherd – took a job at the US Embassy in Afghanistan.
The former canine officer wanted to retire his dog from service in St. Joseph County to join his family, but the department argues Flash – who is just 5-years-old – could work until he's 10-years-old.
A petition on Change.org has gathered more than 100,000 signatures, asking the department to let Flash go back with his family.
In the meantime, the department says it is working to find Flash a new handler.
