Indiana State Police say they engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a New Jersey woman on the Indiana Toll Road in Elkhart County. At one point a state trooper pulled alongside her and motioned for her to pull over. The trooper says the woman looked at him, smiled and continued to flee.

The following release was issued Sunday by Indiana State Police:

Elkhart County- A New Jersey woman was arrested yesterday after leading Indiana State Troopers on a nearly 20 mile pursuit on the Indiana Toll Road.

According to Trooper Matthew Henson, around 3:49 p.m. on February 16, 2019, he saw a red Honda HR-V travelling at a high rate of speed on the Indiana Toll Road near the 105 mile marker westbound. This is approximately two miles west of the Middlebury exit.

Henson caught up to the Honda near the 100 mile marker and activated his emergency lights on his fully marked Dodge Charger to make a traffic stop. Henson reports that the Honda then sped up to speeds over 100 mile per hour, continuing westbound.

A few miles into the pursuit, Henson pulled next to the Honda to motion for the driver to pull over. The driver reportedly looked over at Henson and smiled at him and continued flee. Several miles later Henson pulled next to the driver again to attempt to get the driver to pull over and the driver again looked at Henson smiling.

As the pursuit continued westbound, Trooper Timothy McCormick successfully deployed stop sticks near the 81 mile marker, safely deflating the front driver side tire of the Honda. The Honda came to a stop near the 80 mile marker and the driver was safely taken into custody.

The driver, identified as Temple Jordan, 36 of Berlin, NJ was taken to the Elkhart County Jail where she faces a preliminary charge of Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony. Jordan also received citations for her speed and driving on a suspended license.

Henson was assisted by Trooper Timothy McCormick, Trooper Mark Price, Trooper Jenna Makin, Trooper Nathan Littlefield, Sgt. Jeffery Dolson, and the St. Joseph County Police Department.
