SCAM ALERT: Scammers can trick your caller ID, pretend to be the sheriff's dept.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is warning you about a new phone scam.

Police say a scammer is using a tool that tricks your caller ID into thinking the sheriff's department is calling.

The caller may then tell you there's a warrant for your arrest because you missed jury duty. The scammer may then instruct you to purchase iTunes gift cards to pay for court fees, totaling more than $2,000.

At least two people have fallen victim already.

Police say they will never ask for payments over the phone.

If this scammer calls you contact police immediately.
