Starbase holds graduation ceremony for students finishing session
SOUTH BEND —
Getting kids interested in STEM fields can be a challenge.
But one national program enrolled more than 1,000 Hoosier fifth graders last year.
The program is called Starbase and gives students the chance to build robots using all aspects of STEM fields.
Wednesday they held a graduation ceremony for students finishing the 10-week session.
"These students saw robotics in a totally different way than they would probably see it in a school setting. So that's I think that's the exciting thing Starbase can bring is access and exposure to things that they wouldn't normally get to see,” said Ryan 'Bandit' Schwab, Starbase teacher.
The program is entirely funded by the Department of Defense, so it’s free for schools to enroll.
