A South Bend woman was killed and two men from the same car were seriously injured in a crash Monday morning with a dump truck in LaPorte.

It happened before 8:30 a.m at U.S. 35 and Boyd Boulevard on the southern edge of the city limits.

Sharron Zimmerman, 54, died in a hospital after the crash, said LaPorte County Coroner Bob Cutler.

According to police, witnesses say the car with Zimmerman was heading westbound on Boyd Boulevard when it pulled out in front of the dump truck that was traveling on 35.

The two men in the car were airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend in critical condition.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured, police said.

LaPorte Fire Chief Andy Snyder said all three occupants of the car were extricated and two of them were unconscious when pulled from the vehicle.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.
