Dr. Steven Hope, the superintendent of Goshen Community Schools, issued a statement Tuesday saying two employees tested positive for COVID-19.

Hope says the employees did not work in the GCS school building and maintained distancing to prevent anyone else from getting infected. He said health officials are working on mitigation and contact tracing.

Here is the full statement, posted to the district's Facebook page:

Goshen Community Schools officials were notified on the evening of August 3, 2020 that two employees who work for Goshen Community Schools have tested positive for COVID-19. Goshen Community Schools has worked closely with the Elkhart County Health Department on mitigation and contact tracing. The employees did not work in a GCS school building and maintained physical distancing practices, preventing any additional people from self-isolating. We will follow our protocols for deep cleaning at our buildings. We will continue to maintain these mitigating standards and work closely with the Elkhart County Health Department in all COVID-19 situations.

We understand that this information will cause concern for some of you. It was very evident today that our staff members were prepared to properly follow the safety protocols we have established. We thank you for your continued cooperation with our request for daily self-screening, wearing masks, physically distancing and frequent hand washing. Adhering to these protocols is essential for maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff. Please contact Steve Hope, Interim Superintendent with any questions or concerns.

Dr. Steven Hope
