ELKHART COUNTY — There's a new option for housing in Elkhart County.
The goal of the nursing home is to allow retirees to keep some of their freedom.
Green House Village of Goshen held a ribbon cutting late Wednesday afternoon.
The homes are alternative skill-care options with around the clock care.
Up to 12 people can live in each house and they can set their own routines.
Experts say some seniors suffer from loneliness, boredom and helplessness as they age.
So these homes are located within a residential neighborhood, allowing people to interact the way they did growing up.
"By placing the green homes in the fabric of this neighborhood we are going to have amazing intergenerational opportunities for our elders that live in the green house to get to know their neighbors,” said Tonya Detweiler, Blue Diamond Communities president.
Each home has 12 master suites with private bathrooms including a walk-in tiled shower.
They also have a salon, spa room and big dining room with one large table.
