UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection to South Bend shooting

South Bend Police investigate homicide// WSBT 22

A teenager is dead after a shooting late Thursday night.

It happened just after 10 p.m. at 1825 North Johnson street in South Bend-- that's on the city's northwest side.

The call came in as a shooting.

When officers got there they found 17-year-old D'Angelo Jennings suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating.

Police have already interviewed several witnesses.

Friday, police arrested 18-year-old Torreny Fennessee on suspicion of manslaughter. No formal charges have been filed.

Neighbors in the area say they feel safe, for the most part.

It does make them nervous to know a shooting happened so close and the suspect could still be on the loose.

One neighbor says he's confident investigators will find the suspect.

"Knowing the police are here and they're investigating it and they've taken control of the situation-- I trust that they have it under control and they know what they're doing,” said Ethan Stroup.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the County Metro Homicide Unit at (574) 235-5009 or CrimeStoppers at (574) 288-7867.
