GRANGER, Ind. (WSBT) — From serving our country to serving our community, some local heroes honored their fellow veterans today.
St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park is now home to 250 veteran memorial flags.
Veterans and volunteers put the flags on gravestones to honor the brave men and women who served our country.
“The reason why we do that is because a lot of families will come out and go to the cemetery memorial weekend and we really want them to come out to a grave that has been marked as a symbol of our appreciation,” said Jim McKinnies, veteran.
The tradition of placing these flags as a way of honoring these local veterans has been going on for 8 years.
