Autopsy: 3-year-old girl found in Indiana pond drowned

An autopsy has determined that a 3-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in a northwestern Indiana pond drowned.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports that a Porter County coroner released Tamira Billingslea's cause of death Wednesday.

A police dog found the child in the pond Monday night after authorities in Valparaiso responded to a call about a missing girl. She later was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Tamira's mother, 32-year-old Tasia Perkins, has been charged with neglect.

The girl's death remains under investigation.
