Michigan lawmakers voted to block Governor Whitmer's executive order.

The Senate rejected her order to restructure the state environmental department.

The House voted against the proposal last week.

This is the first time lawmakers blocked a Governor's executive order in more than 40 years.

Republicans argue the order would abolish oversight panels signed into law under former Governor Snyder.

Governor Whitmer responded saying the panels add too much bureaucracy to environmental rule-making.
