Daughter of fallen Tennessee firefighter sings him 'Happy Birthday'
LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. (WZTV) — The daughter of a fallen Tennessee firefighter sang him "Happy Birthday" while clutching a pillow with his photo on it - and the video will melt your heart.
Video shows 3-year-old Korbyn belting out her best birthday wishes to fallen hero Lawrenceburg firefighter Jason Dickey, singing, "Happy Birthday, Dada."
Jason would have been 39 on Wednesday. He was tragically killed on Feb. 12 when a home collapsed on him and others while battling a fire. Along with Korbyn, Jason was the proud father of three other children.
Jennifer said to celebrate his birthday this year, the family put new flowers on his grave and will release balloons and have a cake.
Dickey was a well-known figure in the Lawrence County community and showed heroism in the line of duty, according to fire department leaders.
"You don't replace Jason Dickey," Battalion Chief Chad Methvin previously said. "Whenever I turn and look, there's two or three faces I always look for...Jason was always one of those faces. I knew if he was there...I knew I could depend on him."
LFD Chief Moore says in 2012, while responding to a car that had overturned in water, Dickey and another fireman entered the water to save a trapped 7-year-old boy. As another fireman went under to grab the boy, Dickey held the fireman's legs and pulled both out of the water, saving the child's life.
On another call in 2012, Moore recalled how Dickey entered the second floor of a structure fire and saved three people.
