FLINT, Mich. - Former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is being charged with two counts of willful neglect of duty, but for years many who lived through the water crisis have been asking for more serious charges than that.

Willful neglect of duty carries up to one year in jail and/or up-to $1,000 in fines.

Attorney Ven Johnson says these charges are more about sending a message, and calls Michigan Attorney General courageous for charging a former governor.

"We need to hold these people accountable. And when government, who are sworn and absolutely take an oath to represent all of us when they breach that duty and on top of that lie, no you're going to be held responsible, and they should be. And so I think it sends a great message to everyone. Do not ever do this again. Sad that we need that message but as we all know in current events sometimes we have to send very important people very strong messages because they don't want to get it otherwise," said Ven Johnson, attorney.
