EDWARDSBURG — Earlier this week, the Edwardsburg girls basketball team wrapped up a 23-1 season.
It was their only loss, coming to another undefeated team in the Division 3 Regional semis.
In the process, senior Kaitlyn Zarycki enjoyed a record-setting season.
"She has a knack for the basketball," said Edwardsburg coach Jon Pobuda. "She gets her hands on a lot of basketballs, she anticipates really well, she gets to where she's supposed to be. Offensively around the basket, she can finish with both hands, and some of the stuff she does is just unbelievable. I don't even know how she does the stuff she does at the basket."
Zarycki has left a lot of opponents, her team, and really all of Edwardsburg in awe after she led her team to an undefeated regular season and back-to-back district titles.
"It feels great, back-to-back champs," said Zarycki. "It can't feel any better."
That elation was felt after having another trophy in her hand, but also as she made history in her final postseason as an Eddie.
In the district title game, Zarycki became the all time leading scorer in Edwardsburg basketball history passing both the girls and boys scoring record. She finished her career with 1,609 points!
"It's surreal," said Zarycki. "When I was little, I couldn't see myself doing this, so it's great. It's the best feeling ever."
"She's going to be there for a long while and rightfully so," added Pobuda. "She deserves it. She's going to be remembered for what she's done for our program. Every year we've gone a little bit further. We are where we are because of her."
