CB Nick Watkins will leave Notre Dame and pursue grad transfer
NOTRE DAME —
Cornerback Nick Watkins is transferring from Notre Dame.
Watkins announced Thursday on social media that he will take advantage of the graduate transfer rule and play elsewhere next season.
"When I decided to attend Notre Dame, my primary goal was to earn a degree from this prestigious university and I'm proud to say I'll achieve that goal," Watkins said in a statement released on Twitter.
"Notre Dame will always hold a special place in my heart."
Watkins started 9 games for the Irish as a senior in 2017, logging 29 tackles and an interception.
But the math didn't add up. Watkins had been surpassed on the depth chart by Troy Pride Jr. late last season and wasn't projected to be a starter in 2018.
Over his three years, he appeared in 35 games.
Watkins will graduate next month.
