Gilbert injury leaves void for Notre Dame

Notre Dame women's basketball tallied another win over a top 25 opponent last night, but may have suffered a huge blow to their depth in the process.

In the third quarter of last nights victory over Iowa, freshman guard Kaitlyn Gilbert was injured.

The guard had her shoulder pop out, which is a real problem. Gilbert had been providing a spark off the bench for the Irish. Something they desperately need as they've been relying heavily on their starting five, four of whom have averaged 26 minutes of more over 7 games.

Head Coach Muffet McGraw said it now falls on the upperclassman to give the freshman left on the bench a boost in confidence. Especially as a showdown with Number 2 UCONN looms.

The regular season matchup of the year is set for Sunday afternoon. Number 1 Notre Dame will host Number 2 UConn in a rematch of last year's Final Four game.

That tips off at 4 p.m.
