NOTRE DAME — Notre Dame hockey is getting ready for a critical weekend. On Saturday, the Irish will host Minnesota, in the Big Ten Semifinals.
With seven freshmen in the lineup, this weekend will be a new experience for many of the Irish.
For the remainder of this season, every game is single elimination, and this Saturday, the Irish are in a must win situation.
Notre Dame's current resume needs a boost if they want to make the NCAA Tournament field, meaning they cannot lose to the Gophers this weekend in the Big Ten Semifinals.
"I think we're to the point where we have to win to go on. I don't think we can assume anything less," Head Coach Jeff Jackson added, "We're not talking about it. I mean, I'm talking about we're playing in a semifinal to have a chance to play in the championship game to have a chance in a Big Ten Championship."
Right now, the Irish still control their fate, which is what Jackson wants his team's attention on.
Jackson said, "So, our total focus has to be on one thing and one thing only because we still control our own destiny. We worked hard to finish in second to be able to play at home. We just have to focus on Saturday night right now and everything else will take care of itself."
Notre Dame hosts Minnesota Saturday night at 7:00pm ET at the Compton Family Ice Arena. If the Irish can get a win, it would send the Irish back to the Big Ten championship game for the second year in a row and give them another resume boost before Selection Sunday.
"We put ourselves in the position to be on the bubble and now we have to put ourselves in position to get off of it," said Jackson.
