Mabrey improving, set to start vs. Iowa
The Notre Dame women’s basketball team got a big lift over the weekend when Marina Mabrey returned to game action for the first time this season.
Mabrey made her debut on Saturday in the championship game of the Vancouver Showcase, helping lead the Irish to a win over ninth-ranked Oregon State.
Marina will once again be in the starting lineup tomorrow (Thursday), when the Irish host Iowa in the Big Ten - ACC Challenge.
However, Coach Muffet McGraw says her minutes will still be limited as she continues to heal.
Mabrey has been practicing, and having her on the floor even in a limited capacity is a good boost for the Irish.
"It was so good to have Marina back,” said McGraw.”That was amazing that she made such an impact in that game just in those limited minutes she was allowed to play. I think she brought us great energy, having another guard that can shoot a three, which is something we've really been lacking."
"I think it'll be a few weeks before I look like my normal self out there,” said Mabrey. “Trusting the process and playing through it and getting better with my cardio and stuff like that. That's really what I'm concentrating on and trying to help the team while I'm in there for these next couple of games."
The Irish host Iowa tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
After that, the big showdown with UConn is on Sunday!
