Marian prepares for 3A regionals
The Marian girls basketball team competes in the Regional this weekend for just the second time in program history.
But they're also in the final 16 for the second year in a row!
In the opener Saturday, the Knights will face a resurgent Knox team.
If they can get by them, Marian will likely face the number one team in the state: Northwestern, who is the defending state champ, stacked with several Division 1 commits.
It’s quite a challenge for the Knights who have just two seniors on the roster.
"Real fired up to be in the regional again,” said Steve Scott. “I think it helps us that we were there last year. We play Knox first and Knox is a real good ball club. If we would be fortunate enough to get through them, we would maybe play the best team in any class, which is Northwestern."
"We're kind of a small team,” said Makayla Weaver. “We don't have a lot of height on us, so we have to play big. We're kind of a fast team, so we have to play faster than what they do."
“To see how far we've come since my freshman year to nowwe're going to go down in history,” said Mikiya Roby. “Everyone is going to know this class and last class for our accomplishments."
Marian plays Knox at 10:00 Saturday in Rensselaer.
If they win, the regional final is that night at 8:00.
