New skipper for the South Bend Cubs in 2019
SOUTH BEND —
The South Bend Cubs will be under new management this summer.
The organization is shuffling managers, sending Jimmy Gonzalez to High-A Myrtle Beach and bringing former Myrtle Beach skipper Buddy Bailey here to South Bend. Gonzalez managed South Bend from 2015-2018.
Bailey has been a manager in the Cubs minor league organization since 2006.
South Bend will be his 5th stop: He's also coached at Triple-A Iowa (2007), AA Tennessee (2008, 2012-15), Myrtle Beach (2016-18) and Class-A Daytona (2006, 2009-11).
Bailey led Myrtle Beach to the league championship in 2016.
Over his coaching career that spans nearly 4 decades Bailey has managed in more than four thousand games, with a managerial record of 2,167-2,017.
Some of the current Chicago Cubs he's managed over the years include Willson Contreras, Ian Happ, Kyle Hendricks, Javy Baez and 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant.
