Now that the 2019 Winter Classic is over, it's time for some NCAA hockey at Notre Dame Stadium!

The Fighting Irish got their first taste of outdoor hockey this morning as they held practice. WSBT 22's Olivia Ray was on campus today and spoke with the Irish ahead of their match-up with Michigan.

They told her that they never thought they would be wearing a gold helmet inside of Notre Dame Stadium!

Sophomore defense-man Matt Hellickson said, "No, no I never once thought I'd be able to do that. So, it's actually pretty special that we're able to have the opportunity to do so."

"I think that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us and we're just really looking forward to it," junior goaltender Cale Morris added, "It's incredible. This building has so much history and so much success built into it, so it's definitely a special moment to be walking out here in ice skates and take it all in."

Because the game is being played outdoors, weather obviously becomes a factor.

Hellickson said, "It's actually something I've never done before. It's actually very interesting just playing with the glare of the sun, having two different sides of the rink is almost what it felt like. But overall it was a great experience, super fun. I just tried to soak it in as much as I could."

The sun can cause problems with the ice conditions and it is likely to throw a strong glare. Both of these factors could impact the players' safety, meaning the sunshine will cause a delay tomorrow.

Notre Dame has elected to push the start back an hour, so the Irish and Wolverines will drop the puck at 4:30pm ET.
