Notre Dame spring football: Tony Jones prepares for increased role

A week from Saturday Notre Dame wraps up spring football with the annual Blue-Gold game.

The spring game kicks off at 12:30.

One of the BIGGEST pieces from last year Notre Dame is looking to replace is Josh Adams.

The junior running back and one-time Heisman candidate will be hearing his name called in the NFL draft in two weeks.

No one player is likely to fill that void, but Dexter Williams and Tony Jones are expected to inherit a majority of the carries.

Jones sprained an ankle in week three last season, and was never quite the same afterwards.

But he's healthy now, and leaner. And he says he's working on building up his stamina for an increased workload.

"I think all of us are just going to have to accept some type of role and just bring our type of game to the field," Jones told WSBT 22. "I'm just working on just getting more snaps, working on my mentality, working on my emotions. I guess just being a captain-type leader."
