The Indiana state baseball tournament has reached the regional round.

A handful of area teams will be in action this Saturday, including the defending Class 3A state champs.

SB St. Joe plays Peru in the first regional game Saturday afternoon, and if they win, another game that night.

Head Coach John Gumpf said, "The thing I'm confident with is, when you get to a regional and if you're fortunate enough to play two games, you need two pitchers. I've got two very good pitchers, and then some. To play two games in one day it's not easy to do, and especially against the competition we're going to face."

Meanwhile, St. Joe's softball team is also still alive in the state tournament.

St. Joe will face Fairfield in the 2nd game of the Twin Lakes semi-state this Saturday.

The Tribe is playing in the semi-state weekend for the the 3rd time in the last 4 years.

Senior Hannah Goerke said, "We're just mentally preparing ourselves as well, because we've made it to semi-state multiple times, but we always somehow fall short."

But they've never made it to state, a fact they're very aware of and very eager to change.

"We know what we need to do in order to be successful. So, we're hoping this year we'll be able to surpass the hump of winning a semi-state championship and move on to state, which has never been done in our program," said senior Megan Welsh.
