The Notre Dame softball team kept an amazing streak alive over the weekend.

Since Deanna Gumpf took over the program 17 years ago, the Irish have made the NCAA Tournament every single year.

That's the case again this year, although it didn't happen without a little drama.

When the field of 64 teams was announced Sunday, one-by-one the bracket was revealed, until finally Notre Dame saw its name appear as the final at-large team in the field.

"It was a little painful actually, says head coach Deanna Gumpf. "16-brackets and we were the 64th name on the bracket. It was crazy. It was a little emotional."

It was emotional afternoon, but one with a happy ending for Irish Softball. Notre Dame will play in the Lexington, Kentucky regional. They'll face Michigan in the first round. Notre Dame split a pair of games against the Wolverines earlier this season.
