Solid spring for Khalid Kareem

Spring football practice wraps up next week at Notre Dame.

Through 10 practices, one of the biggest bright spots has been Khalid Kareem.

The junior-to-be excelled late last season, playing some of his best football in November and in the bowl game.

Last weekend, Brian Kelly said he felt Kareem had earned a starting spot at defensive end. With the recent announcement that Jay Hayes is transferring, Kelly says the challenge now is getting Kareem ready too handle the majority of the workload.

"He has a knack for pass rushing. Just has a knack for being there and getting to the QB. I think for him, the next step becomes: how do we get him up to 60 plays? He was a 20-play guy for us last year. How do we get him up to 60? Fatigue, strength, all those things coming together. But he's got some really innate ability to find the quarterback," said Kelly.

You can see Kareem in action for yourself soon. The annual Blue-Gold game is a week from this Saturday. Kick-off is at 12:30.
