Pigskin Preview: Marian High School

Marian high school nearly played for a state championship in its 50th season of football.

As their next half-century began on Monday afternoon, the Knights hit the field focused on one goal.

"We just really wanna repeat that regional championship from last year and try and get one game further and get to state," senior lineman Michael Dennison says.

Marian went 10-4 in 2015, which included a magnificent run through the post-season, winning the sectional and regional titles. Head coach Reggie Glon expects his team to be sharp early in 2016 as a result of that playoff run.

"The guys who are back got a lot of experience last year because we went so deep in the playoffs," Glon says.

"They got an extra half a season under their belt. "

Marian also has experience at key positions. The Knights return starting QB Bryce Tomasi, and halfback/linebacker Alexander Horvath, who's being recruited by several division one programs.

"Last year we had a great season," Horvath says. "We have a lot of returning starters this year, so I hope we have the same outcome except get a little farther this year and get to state."

Marian opens the season on August 19th at home against South Bend Clay.
